We had a family night lesson where I told the kids I was thinking of someone special and I had his picture upside down in front of me. I gave them these clues:
-He loves children.
-He sees you when your sleeping.
-He knows if you've been bad or good.
-He has a beard and a kind face.
-He spent his life giving to others.
-He gives the very best gifts.
-He gives us a warm special feeling.
-He is often pictured in red and white clothes.
-He has special, wonderful powers.
-He could get into our home, even if the doors and windows are locked.
-Even though he is always giving, he doesn't ask for presents in return.
-He encourages us to be good so we'll be ready when He comes.
Of course the kids guessed that it was Santa. I told them that Santa does have all of those things, but I'm thinking of someone else. They all knew I must be thinking of Jesus Christ and, of course, they were right! I showed them this picture.
I told them that Santa is a symbol of Jesus. Santa Claus wants us to remember Jesus and be like Him. He is trying to be like Jesus too. Then we went to see him.
Jas asked for Legos and a pogo stick, ha, ha! I asked him how he even knew what a pogo stick was. He saw it on Grandma's Yoshi game. He thought it would jump by itself and was a little concerned that maybe he wouldn't be able to control where it went and would fall off, but he still asked for it, ha, ha!
Parker asked for Legos, especially Mario Legos.
Elise just looked cute!
Liesel was super-nervous to sit on Santa. She looked like she was almost going to cry, but didn't. She wanted that candy cane, ha, ha! She said, "Tinkerbell" the second he asked her what she wanted and jumped off his lap as soon as she could. Later though, and even now, she often talks fondly of Santa, saying "ho, ho, ho, he gives tandy tanes"!
