The 24th of July Plus

On Pioneer Day we headed up Millcreek Canyon with my family. My dad had gone up earlier to save a spot and we were the next to arrive. The boys had so much fun exploring with Daddy and Grandpa.

The picnic site was beautiful and had a nice view of the creek.Lucky for us my Grandma Cannon came up for lunch as well. Here she is with Dylan, Jason and Angie. My mom found this awesome spider web. Can you see it? (You can click on the photo to enlarge it.) All the kids enjoyed their lunch, especially the Doritos. We never have them at our house, but we sure like them! We had a birthday party for Alison while we were there. Now she's four. It's so fun that both my kids have cousins their same age. Of course Parker wanted to do our family tradition of "heavy hangover". In case you're like most of the world who is unfamiliar with this tradition, everyone chants, "Heavy, heavy hangover thy poor head, what do you wish this person with a bump on the head". The present giver taps (or whacks) the person on the head with the gift when you say "bump". Kids LOVE this game. After the presents Parker grabbed the balloons and started running. Most of you who have little boys know exactly why. He wanted to be chased. It worked too. Ali got some wonderful presents and she, Parker and Heidi spent much of the rest of the day playing with them. For dinner we had a barbeque at my parents'. My mom got the kids glow bracelets. They were so fun we let them play with some in the car. These kept the kids entertained the whole hour's drive home. On an unrelated note, today we went to a party at the library to celebrate Parker completing their summer reading program. Even though it wasn't quite as well organized as it has been in the past, the kids had a great time making hero shields, playing water games, eating Otter Pops and playing with all their new toys. They also got some great new books. Parker tried to read one himself and did pretty well. I only had to help him with a few words on each page.
